Built on a
daydream.
Primal House started as a stubborn idea in Alyssa Leal's head: a place where people could live out their barbecue dreams. She'd already run Bud's Cuts, a butcher shop in Bakersfield, but she wanted a cutroom on display where every steak got tailored to the customer standing at the counter.
She brought it to Bud Cole, a fourth generation Bakersfield cattle rancher and lifelong friend. He knew the animal side cold. Her parents, Jimmy and Teresa Leal, veterans of the oil and farming worlds, backed the whole thing. Butcher and market came first. Eatery and brewery followed.
Three and a half years of construction later, Primal House opened its doors at 3330 Ramada Drive at the end of May 2025. One address, four trades, no shortcuts.
